Anoor R. Dattatreya Sharma , a mridangam exponent, hails from a family of musicians, his father being the well known violinist Anoor S. Ramakrishna. His grandfather was the well known Vainika Veena Shamanna. Dattatreya Sharma is a disciple of Sri. Subbu and Sri. Bangalore Venkatram. He started giving concerts from the year 1975 and has accompanied many leading Top Ranking artists in the Carnatic Music field.
Sharma is currently the Principal of the leading Music School in Bangalore, Ayyanar College of Music, which is training and has trained innumerable number of students. Many of them are well recognized concert artists of today. Ayyanar College of Music is an age old institution founded by Late Sri. T. Chowdiah, the famous violinist in the year 1952. Ayyanar College regularly conducts Special Study Circles, Features, and Lecture Demonstrations in addition to Music Concerts.
Sharma has accompanied well known musicians in Carnatic Music in addition to the famous Percussion Ensemble "Laya Lahari". He has participated in a number of national and international events. He has brought out a number of commercial Cassettes including the Laya Vrishti and Layalahari, exclusive pieces of Percussion instruments. Rama Seva Mandali of Koramangala has honored him with the title "Laya Vadya Thilaka".
Sharma has performed extensively all over India and other countries of the world including USA, Malaysia, Sri Lanka.
He has been visiting USA on concert tours for the past 5 years continuously accompanying leading artists, giving lecture demonstrations, conducting work shops and Percussion ensembles. He has accompanied many leading artists in the Carnatic Music field.
