Sidharth Kumar

Sidharth Kumar hailing from a musical family showed keen interest and talent at a very early age.  He began learning Carnatic music from his mother, Smt. Champa Kumar, at the early age of four. He then went on to learn advanced lessons from Sri. V. Subrahmanyam (Senior Disciple of the late Sri.  Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer). Presently is under the combined guidance of Smt. Jaya Krishnan (senior disciple of the late Sri. Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan, T.K. Rangachari), and Dr.V.V.Srivatsa. He accompanies his Guru Smt. Jaya Krishnan in many concerts, and actively participates in rendering the Ragam, Neraval, and Swaras.  He is a B grade of the All India Radio.

Sidharth is adept at rendering Raagam-Taanam-Pallavis. With training in the Mirudangam from Vazhuvoor Sri. R. Ravi, and Bombay Sri. C.N. Balaji (disciple of Shri. Palghat Raghu) for a period of six years, Sidharth has a strong grip on laya. He also underwent training for over four years in playing classical music on the Electric Guitar from Shri E. R. Janardhan (disciple of Shri. Kadri Gopalnath).

Since 2003, has rendered many concerts at renowned Sabhas and Temples in Chennai and Tamilnadu.  In 2004, secured the "Best Vocalist" award in the Gokulashtami Series at the Krishna Gaana Sabha.  In 2005, participated in the "Spirit of youth" festival in the Music Academy;  was selected by the Tamilnadu Iyal Isai Nataka Manram to render four concerts in Tamilnadu - Gobichettipaalayam, Neyveli, Tirunelveli and Chennai (Hamsadhwani).  In 2007, he performed at the Siva-Vishnu temple in Maryland during the Thyagaraja aradhana festival; His concert in the Chinmaya mission, Maryland in July 2008 drew appreciative reviews. He performed at Karthik Fine Arts and Parthasarathy Sabha in the Dec' 08/Jan'09 music season;  Brahma Gana Sabha and Parthasarathy sabha in  Dec’09/ Jan’10 music season; and TT Devasthanam, and Nungambakkam cultural academy in the Dec'10/Jan' 11 music season to highly receptive audiences. 

Academically, Sidharth completed his  B.Tech from IIT-MADRAS and is currently pursuing Doctoral studies in Astrophysics at the University of Maryland, since August 2006.  He continues to give performances, both in Chennai and in Maryland.
