BRIEF BIODATA OF UDUPI SREEDHAR

Hailing from a family of musicians, Sreedharan Potty, popularly known in the Carnatic Music world as, UDUPI SREEDHAR, has had his initial training in Mridangam under Karamana Sri Krishnankutty Nair from the age of 8. He received advanced training in Mridangam from Late Padmashree Mavelikkara N. Krishnankutty Nair. He subsequently learned Ghatam frolm Vidwan Kalaimamani Sri K. M. Vaidyanathan.

A graded artiste of All India Radio – “A” grade in Ghatam and “B” High Grade in Mridangam, Udupi Sreedhar has been providing accompaniments for eminent vocalists and instrumentalists for their performances throughout India and abroad., He has been featured in various programs in All India Radio and Doordarshan in the National networks including Akashvani Sangeetha Sammelan programs.

Music Academy of Madras honored him with an award for the “Best Music Concert” in the year 2000. He has performed in almost all the leading Sabhas in the country and has been regularly performing during the Music Season in Madras since 1985.

He has participated in the Festival of India in Germany in 1992 and 1995 with Flute Maestro Sri K. S. Gopalakrishnan and performed in Germany, Aujstria and Netherlands and France; he has also accompanied Smt. Aruna Sairam to Kuwait and with Kathappuram Sri Damodaran Namboothri in the year 1999. Toured the United States and Canada with Smt. Mysore Nagamani Srinath in the year 2000.

Sridhar is a Post-Graduate in Commerce and is now working for Union Bank of India, in Trivandrum.
