P.K. Swaminathan

Dr. P. K. Swaminathan (Mrudangam) from Maryland has been accompanying Indian classical musicians and dancers for more than twenty five years. His is a disciple of Mrudangam Maestro, Padmabhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman.

Dr. Swaminathan performed in two mini tours during 2004 with Flautists Dr. N. Ramani and Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar. During 2003 he performed in two US national tours with veteran musicians, Charumathi Ramachandran and Rudrapatnam Brothers. During 2002, he did mini tours with Trichur Ramachandran and Neyveli Santhanagopalan.

He has accompanied several other top musicians from India like B. Rajam Iyer, T.K. Govinda Rao, T.R. Subramanian, Ravikiran, Ashok Ramani, to name a few. He has performed in the orchestra of Smt. Kamala, Swamimalai Rajaratnam, Adyar Lakshman and Vempatti Chinna Satyam,. He has also provided accompaniment in innumerable US produced classical dance programs from debuts (Arangetrams) to Grand Dance ballets.

Dr. Swaminathan received Solo Instrumental Artist award from Maryland State Arts Council for 2002 and 2004.

By profession, Dr. Swaminathan is a Principal Staff Physicist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
